Last Summer, Event House partnered with the producers of  the Houston Wedding Showcase and a few other local wedding vendors to give one couple the wedding of their dreams.  The proud winners were Heather and Chris, who are getting married this summer.

Event House gave away $1500 towards Heather and Chris’s wedding invitations.  I met with Heather and her mom to select a gorgeous mix of paper, patterns and embellishments to complete the wedding invitations of her dreams.  Following a contemporary wedding invitation wording format, the following photos are the end result of our collaboration.

The Color Aubergine – Perfectly Romantic!

Event House just completed a couture invitation project for Helena and Donnie’s wedding coming up in a few weeks.   The couple’s wedding invitation wording was engraved in gold over rich metallic papers and mounted over 100% fine aubergine silk dupioni fabric.  Their wedding colors are very formal yet romantic!

One of the reasons I really like this project is this – the couple’s wedding colors are very close to our company’s corporate (brand) color.  This color really makes me very happy.  Check out Helena and Donnie’s invite photos from production to completion below.

Helena and Donnie’s wedding invitations will definitely get the attention of their guests.  Each invitation was finished with a fine satin ribbon in raisin and a pearl clustered brooch the (lady) guests can wear to their wedding.  What a great keepsake!

Cute Hand Drawn Wedding Maps!

There’s nothing as cute and charming as a hand drawn map to mark a special occasion such as your wedding.  I just completed a design for a client getting married in Sonoma “Wine” County, California.  The hand drawn calligraphy maps were printed in the brown ink to match my client’s wedding invitations.  The map is shown finished with a script writing.

One of my favorite features on this particular map is the couple in a convertible with a just married sign and trailing tin cans – a special request by my client. I really enjoyed drawing this map. How much should I spend on my wedding invitations?

I have had many brides ask me this question. I also get a lot of  “I haven’t done this before so I don’t know how much things cost”. No need to worry, I have highlighted some points below to guide you and get you on your way to the perfect wedding invitations.

As a general guide, the typical couple spends an average of 3-5% of their overall wedding budget on invitations/stationery. This number goes higher depending on the number of wedding stationery items needed for the wedding. For a lot of brides and grooms planning luxury weddings, the average goes up to about 8-10%.

Regardless of your budget, there is an invitation for every bride and groom.  I recommend the following 3 quick steps to help you accomplish your wedding invitation design goals.

1. Do your homework on what invitations cost.
Have you spotted an invitation design(s) that you like?  Give the designer a call to see if someone can assist you with some pricing information.  Keep in mind that exact pricing on custom items may not be readilly available but you can request a price guide or start pricing.

2. Request a one-on-one consultation to preview samples/designs.
Most fine stationers and invitation designers offer complimentary consultations before an invitation design process commences.  Be sure to request one and have your questions prepared.

3. Have a good idea of what you want.
Using magazines and the internet, browse ideas and concepts that project what you are envisioning for your wedding invitations.  Create a small folder with the magazine tear sheets and take this folder along with you to your consultation.

Once you narrow down your options, be sure to communicate your expectations and final details to your invitation designer. The rest is a breeze!

The Making of a Couture Invitation

I just completed the design and mailing of an exquisite invitation – A very remarkable fusion of silk, ultra luxe papers, peacock feathers and fine jeweled embellishments to complete the look.  Each guest on my client’s list was special and received a complete silk invitation suite including the formal wedding invitation card mounted on 100% silk dupioni with a keepsake gold foiled wedding bookmark.  Each invitation ensemble also included a custom response card,  a private wedding itinerary card, travel reminder and of course a complimenting reception card.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this particular design is the exceptional taste of my client.  The bride and groom also hired Event House to complete the entire mailing of each box invitation.  Like every order we receive at Event House, my team and I worked hard to ensure we exceeded our client’s expectations.  Go E|H team!

Back to the Showroom!

It’s been an extremely busy year for me and my team at the EVENT HOUSE. With so many bridal shows and open houses coupled with timely production of many invitation designs for 2010 weddings, it feels like June already!

Regardless, we are working tirelessly to make sure every single  invitation design order we receive is completed with exceptional design taste and remarkable craftsmanship.  The major bridal shows are over with a couple more open houses to go, so we are officially moved back into our showroom.
